When industry meets craft quality, a success story is born. Maxalto was founded in 1975 as a special division of B&B Italia. Afra and Tobio Scrapa designed a collection of furniture for the brand made entirely of wood, individually and skillfully hand-finished. The general development trend pointed to something else (plastic, searching for new materials) at the time. The choice of wood as the main material for the Maxalto brand seemed to be going against the stream. To date, the art director and curator of the Maxalto collection is Antonio Citterio.
